Meet our Instructors

Art & Beyond teachers are accomplished, creative individuals who know their subjects intimately. What’s more, they care deeply about their students. They act as advisors, coaches, club leaders and role models. Meet our dynamic instructors:

Amryn Soldier

Amryn graduated cum laude with a BA from the UNC Asheville honors program concentrating in photography and ceramics and earning the Leadership in Arts Award. She has seven years of professional photography and teaching experience. Amryn’s passion for teaching art has expanded her experience to include instructing camps, classes, and workshops for children and adults in a variety of subjects and mediums. Her work has been published in a number of print and online publications such as Sugar Hill & Suwanee Life Magazines, Persephone’s Daughters, Voyage ATL, and The Southern Regional Honors Council as well as a various literary magazines. Amryn’s most noteworthy achievement was delivering a TEDx talk on overcoming fears in artistic endeavors. She has also exhibited photographs locally and internationally and most recently she was part of Arts Suzhou 2017. She will also be a presenter at the Alternative Process International Symposium in Santa Fe, New Mexico this September demonstrating her process of combining alternative process photography techniques.

Anita Stewart

Anita Stewart graduated from the University of Memphis with a major addiction to art and a minor in art education. After moving to Atlanta in 1983, with her family, she advanced as both an artist and art teacher. As an artist she achieved awards in national, international and local juried competitions. Her work has graced the walls of universities and art museums. Her work has been filmed and aired for TV on numerous occasions. In 1998, Anita founded her own studio, Anita’s ArtsCool, which grew to become recognized as one of the “crown jewels of Buford.” (Gwinnett Daily Post)

Anita “teaches” through strategically placed layers of mixed media. Traveling to different countries (South Africa, Italy, Peru, Ecuador, Panama and Australia) has influenced her artistic inspiration recently resulting in series titled “Celebrate the Differences”. Her intriguing “Map Art” styling is part of collections shown internationally. Her latest honor was to reside in Beverley, Australia for a month as their first international artist in residence.

Barbara Watson

Barbara Watson discovered her artistic side at age 5 when a teacher praised her apple drawing. She continued to study art through high school and at the Atlanta College of Art – now a part of SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design). Creativity takes many forms and Barbara enjoys sewing, interior and fashion design, costume making, and gardening. She loves helping people discover their creative abilities and is looking forward to helping you find your inner artist.

Barbara instructs weekday & weekend Paint & Sips, Special Events, and Corporate Team Building events.

Elise Aronson

Elise Aronson is an art instructor at Art & Beyond. She will be teaching mixed media classes to our after-school and home-school students as well as offering mixed media workshops for adults. Students will be given the opportunity to work with a wide variety of art media. Elise emphasizes observation, memory, and imagination to develop creative skills. Her goal is to inspire all of her students with a passion for art. Students will be exposed to artists throughout history as well as learning about artwork from other cultures. She has a Bachelor of Visual Arts in art education from Georgia State University. As a believer in recycling, many of Elise’s sculptures are made from recycled vintage clock parts, computer elements, antique jewelry, and other recyclables. Her website is .

Katharine Norman

Katharine is an Art Studio major from the University of Kentucky where she studied fiber arts and photography. She had the opportunity to study not only photography, but also art history for a summer abroad in Italy. After her undergraduate work she received her Master’s in Art Education from the University of Florida. She has taught art for students ages 2 through the high school level. Her passion is finding a way for students to connect art to their own personal learning style. With that, she hopes that an appreciation and love for art will grow. Katharine’s personal artwork consists of acrylic, watercolor and mixed media. She is currently an art instructor for Fulton County school district.

Katharine joins Art & Beyond to lead Summer Arts & Crafts Camps.

Sonja Fasen

Sonja has her certified degree in art education. She has been teaching art in public schools as well as private classes to all ages for the past 5 years. In her studio outside of the classroom, she spends her time painting and illustrating children’s books. Her passion lies in integrating the arts into the core curriculum to help children learn through and with the arts. She is currently an art instructor for Dekalb County school district and will be joining Art & Beyond to lead some of our art camps and assist with with some of our painting classes.

Cindy Sanchez

Cindy is a self-taught acrylic artist who has been painting for over 30 years in the Metro Atlanta area. She was a member of the Sawnee Arts Organization in Cumming, GA for 5 years. She has taught adult painting classes and children’s drawing classes in the Cumming area for several years. Her artwork includes a variety of styles but she prefers paintings with a touch of surrealism.

In addition to her paintings on canvas, she has painted wall murals and commercial storefront windows. She has always been inspired by the beautiful colors of nature and the day and evening skies which are reflected in most of her paintings. Her favorite subject is clouds in all their various forms. Her paintings have been featured in the Gio Vairs Gallery in Buford, GA and also in several Bellezza Art Shows and the Sawnee Arts Festival in Cumming and the Synchronicity Art Show at the Grandview Gallery in Buckhead.

She is currently working on a series of Mandalas reflecting the symbols of the zodiac. One of these Mandalas was published in the international magazine “The Mountain Astrologer” in 2002.  She is available for commission work for paintings on canvas or wall murals.
